Desktop Stock Alert Desktop Stock Alert

The Desktop Stock Alert (DSA) messenger is an instant Stock Alert notification system. This small program will alert you when a new Stock Alert or other information that you have requested is available.

Once installed, the DSA icon, a small green circle with a white "+" in the middle, will appear in the lower right-hand corner of your screen (in the "System Tray").

When a new Alert becomes available, the DSA icon will flash from green to red, and a small "bubble" window will pop up just above the icon. You will see a link in the "bubble": Click on it to listen to the recording directly.

In addition to newly recorded messages, you can access Alerts that were recorded previously in the day. You can find links to older recordings in the Archives section. See below for complete instructions.

SAVE TIME — Read this First! — FIVE MINUTE SETUP INSTRUCTIONS

TO INSTALL the STM Desktop Stock Alert Messenger do the following:

1. Download the program by clicking here. A window will pop up asking you to "Save" or "Open" the file. Choose the "Save" option. The file usually downloads to your desktop. The file is small (492kb), so it will download quickly.

2. To open the file, either select "open" or double-click the file (the file name is "DSA15.zip") that you have downloaded. After you "open" or double-click the file, your zip file program should open. You will see three files: "setup.exe" and "StatusMon-Setup.msi" and "read_me.txt" (which is basically these instructions).

Note: Most computers come with a program that can open zip files. If for some reason you do not have a zip program, you can download a free one here.

3. Double-click the "setup.exe" file and follow the installation instructions. Choose "Run" to start the process. When done, close the zip program.

(Note that some zip programs will give you a warning about opening .exe files. If you receive such a warning, select the appropriate response ["Yes," "Open," etc.] to run the file.)

4. The program will quickly install itself. Another icon (a large green circle with a "+" sign in the middle) will appear on your desktop. It will have the name "Desktop Stock Alert."

5. Double-click that icon, and you will see a small version of that icon appear in the lower right-hand corner of your screen (in the System Tray). That will be your Alert Messenger Icon.

6. Installation is complete. Continue reading so you can make full use of the program.

HOW TO USE the STM Desktop Stock Alert Messenger:

1. After you install the Desktop Stock Alert (DSA), you'll see a green disk icon (with the white "+" in the middle) in your system tray, located in the lower right-hand corner of your screen. This is your DSA icon.

2. Right click the DSA icon. A small menu will appear giving you four options: "Configure..."; "Pause"; "Archives"; and "Exit." The first thing you must do is open the "Configure" window (by clicking on the word "Configure...").

CONFIGURE:
Click on "Configure..." and a window appears that says at the top of it, "Configure Parameters." Here you choose which Alerts you want to hear. By default, all update options are selected. If you do not want to receive Alerts from a particular commentator, uncheck the box beside his name. For example, if you do not want to be notified whenever the "Dollar Man" records, uncheck the box beside "Dollar Man." Choose as many or as few as you like. You can add or remove selections at any time. After you have finished making your selections, click the "Apply" button, then click "Close."

PAUSE:
When you click "Pause," you will stop receiving Alerts. To receive Alerts again, right-click the DSA icon in the System Tray and click "Unpause."

ARCHIVES:
The Archive section contains links to the messages that each commentator has made during the day. At 3:00 AM Eastern Time, all previous messages are cleared from the server. The Archives section will therefore be refreshed in the morning.

Hold you mouse over "Archives" option. A fly-out menu will appear. It will display the list of Commentators and Alerts that you have chosen in the "Configure" section. If for example you have chosen to receive the "Ice Man" and "Dollar Man" alerts, both of them will appear. Hold your mouse over the Commentator you want to hear and a list of all his recordings (up to four) for the day will appear. If he has made say two recordings, you will see "Message 1" and "Message 2" appear. "Message 1" is the first recording that he has made for the day; Message 2 is the second, and so on.

If the word "Message" is in BOLD, that means you have not listened to that recording yet. If it is in regular type-face (not bold), that means you've already listened to it.

EXIT

Clicking Exit will close the program. To open the program again, double-click the large "Desktop Stock Alert" icon on your desktop. You do not have to configure the program again.

System Requirements:

» Windows® Operating System (98, 2000, ME, NT, XP, Vista, Win 7)
» NET Framework.

Note: Most Windows systems already have .NET Framework installed, except perhaps earlier versions. XP, Vista, and Win 7 do for sure. If you have an older version of Windows and find that you need .NET Framework, you can download it for free from Microsoft by clicking here.

If you have a Firewall, be sure to Allow  "AstStatusMonitor" — it's the script that checks the server for new updates.
